As we move towards Second Life’s Ninth Birthday (and you’ll be hearing lots more about that here), it’s good to reflect that even here, we can have older objects that still have a validity – that may have, in fact, acquired the status of classics (or perhaps antiques!).
Take this corner of my Second Life home, which is a modern(ish) creation by GM Nikolaidis of HomeCraft – who was displaying his latest creation on the Prim Perfect region at the Home and Garden Expo. The clock there I acquired from Serendipity Studios back in 2007; it still keeps perfect time. The desk is a beautiful creation by Szabo Horn that has really stood the test of time (I got it in 2007 again), from its detailed inlaid panels to its beautifully turned delicate legs. Primmy as hell – modern designers would have fifty ways to cut down on that. But I adore it, as I do my harpsichord. I love two the painting above the desk – a view of the Empress and Hierophant region by Twisted Lemon. When I first saw it, I was reminded of Victorian rural paintings, such as those by Inchbald. I added a heavy gold frame – and the photograph becomes – like the other elements, a family heirloom.
