Calling All Nighthawks!

Soho I’ve always been a fan of Edward Hopper and his wonderful portrayals of urban isolation and dysfunction (as in his famous painting Nighthawks). So when I came across a builder who has used this style as her inspiration for a singularly cool apartment, I was delighted.

Fornicola Butuzova first came to Prim Perfect’s notice as designer of the amazing Castle Twilight, which will be our Readers’ Home of the Month. But when I went to visit her store, PreFabulous, the design that caught my eye was the one she called her Soho apartment.

It’s cool and lean metallic lines in a striking green, half merging with the darkness – then suddenly, almost shockingly, being starkly outlined in pools of yellow light. Look at the way the shadows fall here – it looks like an American realist painting rather than an effect achieved with skilful use of ambient light within Second Life. Life imitating life, or life imitating art imitating life?

It’s wonderful – but you would need the ultimate in cool avatars to pull it off as your home!
