Every year, residents celebrate the Birthday of Second Life with a community celebration. Up till 2011, this was organised by Linden Lab, usually through residents. Since 2012, it has been run by residents for residents under the name “SLB Community Celebration”.
Residents apply for space to build their chosen installations – and the final event provides an amazing cross-section of Second Life in that year. Then there are music events going on for a whole week, plus hunts and games of various kinds, as well as talks and presentations.
Prim Perfect has been a presence at the Birthday celebrations since 2008, and has been hosting talks at the Birthday since 2011. We generally organise three strands – Meet the Designers, Meet the Artists and Meet the Community. Some of these talks have proved very popular – such as the timely discussion between Saffia Widdershins and Jessica Lyons after Linden Lab’s intention to build a new platform (now known as Sansar) was announced.
