Autumn Treasure Hunt – Clue 8: The Loftx3

vase from the Loft Once again there’s a Treasure Hunt in this month’s edition of Prim Perfect. There are SIXTEEN stores taking part this month – and you have to visit the store to discover the prim count of each of the pieces featured in the magazine. You’ll find instructions on how to find the prim count for an item on our Treasure Hunt Information page.

Our new clue is from The Loft3, the store owned and run by the triumvirate of Colleen Desmoulins, Elise Fugazi and Kingston Augustus.

The store has a wonderfully cool modern ethose and style, drawing its inspiration from a range of sources as diverse as arts and crafts, Asian and grunge – and combining them into a wonderful modern style that is elegant and stylish.

Furniture designed by Colleen DesmoulinsThe store was started by Colleen Desmoulins, who is also well known as an Aspire! model. The majority of the furniture available is still hers, although her two partners are also well represented.

To the right is a smaple if her work.  The white and red make a good colour contrqast, but she plays with the reds here, drawing on a colour palette that ranges from a dusky rose through russet, with flashes of scarlet adding a pointed note.  And their are Asian elements in the ise of bamboo, the design of the table, the texture of the cushions – as well as in the gong!  I also love the shape of the fireplace here.

Colleen has several white suites, and I think it’s a strength of hers that she makes white furniture not look drained of colour,  but instead look both coolly stylish and appealing.  And, of course, you won’t be in constant terror that someone might spill coffee on it!

Furniture designed by Eliza FugaziEliza Fugazi also has pale elements in the design you can see but, in terms of upholstery, it makes a clean bold statement by combining it with a very deep turquoise.   It’s really a cream that she’s matched it with although it also fits well with the blond wood of the floor.

Here I particularly like the texturing on the wooden furniture stand and table.   You probably wouldn’t want to overload them with stuff – although an occasional ornament could be interesting.  And I find her lights here very interesting – and a complete contrast to each other, for while the floor light is all about sharp angles, the ceiling light swoops overhead in a series of curves – a very organic shape.  The lower the level in the room here, the more severe and austere the lines; it’s only as you lift your eyes upwards that you encounter the more naturalistic shapes reflected in the painting and the light.

Furniture designed by Kingston AugustusKingston Augustus, the other talented designer at the The Loft3, offers a variety of styles.   I love this set, with its playful use of grungy elements – the paintings, and the suggestions that this is furniture built out of scrap materials – the crates and barrel corralled into other uses, sheet of glance placed across too blocks to form a coffee table, the chairs blocky and yet looking very comfortable too.

The suite comes in other colours, and would make a very interesting talking point in many homes.  It’s the opposite of bland and safe – and I love it.

I might have given the impression so far that the The Loft3  is three talented designers working separately in the same store, but actually some of their most interesting working comes when they work in combination.

Furniture designed by Kinston Augustus and Colleen DesmoulinsHere’s an example of what I mean.  Most of the furniture here is by Kingston, but the lovely warm rose panels are by Colleen (the wall behind, with its blossom, is also designed by Kingston, by the way).  The colour combination is striking but harmonious, the muted moss greens picking up well on the warm glowing highlights of the rose.  And the styles, both drawing on Asian influences, also complement (and compliment) each other well.  Each individual piece is beautifully made, and all are drawn into a harmonious whole.

And you’ll have a chance to admire (and perhaps even purchase!) such harmony when you visit The Loft3 as part of this month’s Treasure Hunt.

For the treasure hunt competition, what you have to do is to find as many prim counts as you can, and send the details to primperfect@gmail.com, including your avatar name and an answer to the tiebreak question (which you’ll find in the magazine on Page 26). The person to find the most prim counts will win – and in the event of a tie, we will use the tie-breaker.Also: – you don’t necessarily have to find every prim count to win a prize! Just find as many as you can – by December 6th.
