I received this news of an event for charity – which looks rather fun, I thought:
Anchorage Alaska Convention and Visitors Bureau (ACVB) presents:
Virturod™, the virtual Iditarod™ dog sled race.
MISSION
To explore the wonders of Anchorage, Alaska through the magic of Second Life and to simulate the Virtual Iditrod in SL.
There will be free T-shirts for visitors. There will also be dogsled race contests with virtual and real world prizes for the winners.
The dogsled race will start at 11 a.m. SLT – the exact time of the real-world Ceremonial Start of the 36th Annual Iditarod Sled Dog Race on Anchorages Fourth Avenue, and will continue through 2 p.m SLT.
The winners in each event will receive prize packages from ACVB for themselves and their avatars.
The Virturod registration includes a free dog sled team and reserved race slot and eligibility to win real life hoodie from ACVB.
Second Life residents can register now to race in Virturod by buying an Anchorge Virturod Dog Sled Team for 500(L$.), which includes the registration fee and is open to all SL residents.
Your fee goes to help support ACVB, a non-profit organization, in covering the cost of this sim and to support community outreach and education — by and about indigenous people’s culture and sustainable environment issues.
Visit http://www.Anchorage.net/virturod – for more information.
There’s also the Visitor Information Centre to find out more – and to get your tee-shirt (and steaming hot milk and cookies – you’ll need them!) as well as more information.
Anyone who takes part and takes pictures … I’d love a report on how it goes – and could feature it in the blog!
