This was the show where we continued our discussion of one of the most important issues to have come up in Virtual Worlds – the question of intellectual property, and the challenges to it – and it proved a lively show, with follow-up reports on Shopping Cart Disco, and lively debates on Plurk.
In the programme, we looked at the Linden Content Management Roadmap and asked whether that will provide a measure of protection for inworld creators, or will they increasingly be turning to more stringently controlled worlds such as Blue Mars instead. Gwen Carillon of the Content Creators Association joined us to explain why the Association has been campaigning for something like the Roadmap for over a year.
We also discussed issues with the online sales site XStreetSL – and how that was a missed opportunity for creator protection.
Then we looked at the problems inherent in some browsers, which may be brilliantly designed, but which permit abuses – with Angela Talamasca, who explained the pros and cons that such third party browsers offer.
And RightasRain Rezzable was in the studio for a very lively discussion of the BuilderBot tool, which he initially said Rezzable were planning to release next week (although some of the suggestions from the audience have, we hope, encouraged him to make significant changes before this happens).
This was, we felt, an important and controversial show, and one well worth revisiting. So catch it again at the Treet archives … or on your iPod!
