There are 40 sims making up this years Relay circuit. Hard enough to run them let alone explore and report on them all in any detail. Instead I will try to add a few of my highlights.
The sims are split into groups representing each of the seasons, Seasons of Hope being the theme for this year’s campaign of course. they are also arranged and named in lphabetical order clockwise which makes it easier to know roughly where you are on a circuit too. Having meaningful names for sims gives them an implied identity whether that identity is then reflected in the builds or not. It makes them less faceless.
I will start in Springtime sim of Acceptance, the first spring sim and which is not the
you enter from the final winter sim, sponsored by Steelhead City and featuring the wonderful Steelhead Salmons build that I am sure we’ll come to in a later blog.
As in previous years, the steamlands and thier affilliated grousp such as the Aether chrononauts have all contributed admirably with builds of high quality and imagination. but for now…..
Spring kicks in with bright flowers and real warmth as you walk into RFL Awareness, The whole sim blossoms around you. The highlight is Ame Lobo and Aryon Dagger’s “caregiver’s path”, a winding path with steps and bumps that meanders through the seasons, and crosses into RFL Care the next sim. Dotted with snippets of tales capturing the seasons as they pass, relating the relationship of the caregiver to the patient. The story told ends happily but notes that it is not always thus and acknowledges the burden that a caregive carries. “A caregiver’s path is not easy to walk” and you leave with this statement firmly set in your mind.

RFL Celebrate and RFL Comfort boast an enormous beanstalk that towers above you as you pass by. And then you come upon the gorgeous fairy build Anh Warburton and the Relay Wizards team. Their seasons of hope tower is a magical place of dragons and wizardry.
From RFL Comfort to RFL Courage where we find Jara Jowell’s mighty Tornado for Life.
RFL Cure features the amusing roller coaster of the dandelions and mudpuddles team and next to that the beautiful BOSL Relay teams presentaion of flamingoes and lilies that is a visually stunning creation.
RFL Dedication is dominated by an almighty Egyptian pyramid built by Wakaonna, which I was surprised to find was riddled with tunnels.
This is by necessity a brief glimpse of the wonders to be seen along the Relay track. I am forever amazed at the effort that goes in to building these places that last for just one day. Visit while you can. I will hopefully be back tomorrow with some more seasonal snippets as I am barely a quarter of my way through.
