And so as the Relay winds down so we emabark upon the final stretch of our lap.
We leave the deep warmth of the Autumn and plunge into the icy cold winter in RFL Spirit.
Alia Baroques tower fills the skyline, an eagle soaring overhead. the effective use of a limited palette of monochromes punctuated with red berries and the blue glow of the crystal grove lend this a special atmosphere.
Heading north we wind past the snail racers and on into RFL Strength.
I have spent more hours than I care to think about here in the last few weeks and yet I have barely looked beyond the wal of my own build team’s area. Yet here we find a lovely Dr Who build packed with Merchandise for all Who fans and based upon the 2010 Christmas Special “A Christmas Carol” complete with the shark pulling a trap
just across from the Doctor Who site, Kingdom for RFL have built a fun sled run and a great lift to carrry you back up to the top.
Next comes the build closest to my heart, the Rip Wirefly designer sim built by A group of New Babbagers including myself. the sim is in fact two half sims split across RFL Strength and RFL Strides. Here we have built a steampunk influenced 19th century city split by a river. A story written by yours truly, and scattered through the sim tells the tale of a young scientist who beigns to research Cancer when his fiancée is diagnosed with breast cancer.
If you cannot collect the pieces of the tale as you travel then pick up the book. enjoy a drink in one of our pubs, visit the factories and spend lindens on the frozen river frost faire. The build cam 3rd in the overall designer sim awards a postion that the team are proud to have attained in such a strong field.
Not far beyond in RFL Support we find the New Bababge team campsite, the factory of Hope.
A brilliantly conceived idea, a steampunk production line, manufacturing hope to fulfill the clear demand for it within our world. The site won two 1st prizes in the judging.
From RFL suport we move back round into the start of the alphabet with RFL Acceptance. The Friends Fighting Cancer Team organisers of the massively succesful Fantasy Faire event earlier in the RFL season have a campsiter here. A deep norse log cabin, warmed by a roaring log fire, a rainbow path leading to it, holds an array of their RFLSL merchandise. Two sculpted norse gods look down upon us.
the main build here is the madcap world of Lemondrop Serendip whiose great fun design will bring a warm smile to your frozen cheeks.
We complete our winter journey in RFL Advocacy and two lovely builds.
Firstly we have the wonderful Steelhead Salmons creation a grand arched wall hides two elegant dancers whose towering sculpted forms dance serenely across the open spaces.
Beyond them, the chapel of hope built by the Aether Chrononauts and referenced back in the start of our journey.
Impressive enough viewed from outside and beautifully decorated inside too.
Finally we see the snow melting away and fresh flowers budding as we arrive back where we started.
This is it for this year. 40 sims in 4 blogs, I cannot possibly have done justice to any of the builds let alone all of them but I hope that it has given you a taste of the what was here if you were not able to make it, or will serve as a reminder. I hope your relay was all you hoped it would be and I look forward to next year.
