The 1st World War Digital Poetry Archive at Frideswide

Designing Worlds remembers … the First World War

Join Designing Worlds today, Monday 13th November at 2pm, as we share again the special film Remembrance: 1918 – 2018, which we released in 2018 to mark the centenary of the end of the First World War. Signed at the eleven hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month, the Armistice silenced the guns that had killed so many over the four years of the War.

You can join the Watch Party at 2pm SLT in the Designing Worlds studio in Garden of Dreams.

At 11:10 GMT (3:10am Pacific), on November 11th, 2018, Designing Worlds released a special short film to mark the occasion, available here and at: https://vimeo.com/299871599

The film combines imagery from the University of Oxford’s First World War Poetry Digital Archive at the Frideswide region in the virtual world of Second Life and public domain photography with readings of poetry from the period.

The Archive was originally created in 2009 and was the subject of Designing Worlds episode 64, which is also available on Vimeo at https://vimeo.com/299875273, and we will be showing the full episode after the special Remembrance – or, once again, you can watch it here.

You can still visit the Archive at Frideswide in Second Life. You can obtain a hud at the training camp to help you navigate around the region.
