Supporting Design and Designers in Second Life

campaign Here at Prim Perfect, we believe in craftsmanship. Second Life can frequently make us gasp with its beauty, and designers can wow us with their skill. Saluting, supporting and publicising that skill is what Prim Perfect is all about.

We’ll tell you about low prim goods, and we’ll recommend low prim designers. We’ll salute high prim designers who create fantastically beautiful things too.

But above all, we’ll celebrate craftsmanship – and we’ll encourage others to support and celebrate it too.

sky_1 Designers put hours of work and skill in creating the things they sell – working to bring together shape and texture (as can be seen here on an example of a chair designed by Sky Everett and discussed here). If their work is undermined by copies – either exact or close – which are then sold at huge discounts that fail to acknowledge (let alone reward) the work of the original creator/s, then this strikes a critical blow to creativity within Second Life – and it could play a role in distorting the larger economy.

What can we do?

One thing Prim Prefect wants to do is to support the designers by making sure that if their work is copied, that copy is exposed. And in this, our readers can help. If YOU see an item on sale that you think is copied, contact us here on the blog, or email primperfect@gmail.com.

But perhaps there are other ways that we can support our favourite designers. And we’re interested in hearing your suggestions. So … what do you think?
