Once again there’s a Treasure Hunt in this month’s edition of Prim Perfect. There are SIXTEEN stores taking part this month – and you have to visit the store to discover the prim count of each of the pieces featured in the magazine. You’ll find instructions on how to find the prim count for an item on our Treasure Hunt Information page.
Today’s clue comes from Szabo Horn of Created by Szabo in Freshwater d’Alliez, in the form of a English writing desk. It’s in the Carlton-House style where the writing surface is surrounded by a decorative bank of shaped drawers. The first known example is supposed to have been originally in the Prince Regent‘s bedroom at Carlton House in the late eighteenth century, and its popularity became widespread in the Regency period. This delightful version, unusually, has pigeonholes as well as drawers, but it is definitely worthy of a far more salubrious bedroom than that occupied by Prinny!
It’s a glorious piece – at the moment it stands with its back against the wall and that’s a crying shame because it hides some of the delicate inlaid marquetry, which you can see here on the front too, with curlicue medallions and watchful dragons. I love it – from its elegant curves right down to its delicate pointed legs.
I predict it could become just as much of a signature piece as Szabo’s famous clock – which I wrote about earlier in my series of signature pieces by leading designers. In fact, I already saw it just the other week when I was showing some friends of mine the wonderful study in Arcana Nuevo.
For the treasure hunt competition, what you have to do is to find as many prim counts as you can, and send the details to primperfect@gmail.com, including your avatar name and an answer to the tiebreak question (which you’ll find in the magazine on Page 26). The person to find the most prim counts will win – and in the event of a tie, we will use the tie-breaker. Also: – you don’t necessarily have to find every prim count to win a prize! Just find as many as you can – by December 12th.
