The Designing Worlds show this week came from Second Life’s Seventh Birthday Celebrations – also known as SL7B.
Vodpod videos no longer available.
This was our first show from SL7B – but not our last! We’ll be going back next week, as there’s a lot of really terrific work to explore there.
Some of the places we visited:

Colors from the Void was designed by Shellina Winkler and Solkide Auer who said that while creating this installation they wanted to focus on a work whose outstanding features would be colours and lights. They started from the external panels – they wanted to create a sort of vanishing sensation, which represents the void all around. And then suddenly by sitting on the poseball beneath it the avatar is completely dipped into an explosion of colours.

Capricious, designed by Windyy Lane, also took our fancy. the design is strikingly beautiful in itself – and it’s fun as well, in that you can grab umbrellas and join in dramatic poses on what Windyy calls the ‘balances’. In fact, one person piles on another in a whole series of unexpected collaborations – rather like an acrobatic troupe!

We paid a visit to the impressive BoSL tower, which looms over the whole site, and talked to the owner, Frolic Mills, about its creation.
For us, a real highlight was a visit to Timeline by Raven Haalan and GM Nikolaidis. This is a fascinating and complex piece, a real example of the Virtualism that Raven talked about in his seminal essay on the Prim Perfect blog.

As you explore the sundial and the clock, you can touch each hour to read and then interact with different stories taken from the timelines of different people’s lives. It’s a fascinating and intriguing experience – this is one that everyone should be sure to visit!
Finally, we visited the cake area – a really fun interactive place to visit – where the number “7” hides in all sorts of unexpected places, you can claim your Linden bear, visit and petting zoo and marvel at the cake-baking skills of Vivianne OFlynn …

We were a little concerned, though. The dragons from the Isle of Wyrms were located rather close by … and we all know how fond the dragons are of cake. So sure enough … as we were filming, there was a whoosh! of large wings in the air … and a raid was in progress!

This was our first visit to SL7B so join us next week as we explore further …
