The FLWVM Prairie Build-off is Underway!

This weekend, 23 builders will have 48 hours to create a new home in the Prairie Style made famous by Frank Lloyd Wright.  And YOU can watch it happen!

The FLWVM Prairie Style Build-off is well underway at a sim generously sponsored by Rockcliffe University. The build-off officially started yesterday at 12:30 PM SLT, and runs through Sunday, Sept. 26th, at 12:30 PM SLT.  There are 25 plots at the Build-off: 12 for professional builders, 11 for novices, and two unjuried builds by FLWVM staff.  Judging will take place immediately following the close of building on Sunday, with an Awards Gala on Monday, Sept. 27th, from 7-9pm.

This Build-off is just the next in a series of exciting events for the museum, which is under the leadership of new Executive Co-Directors Ethos Erlanger and Rosalie Oldrich. Since the official announcement of the museum’s new non-profit status, things have been all a go with new exhibits, programs and events.

The staff, led by new Build-off Coordinator Djinn Dasmijn, have worked round-the-clock to prepare this event.  Erlanger commented:

The Frank Lloyd Wright Museum Build-Offs are a challenging event to orchestrate, and the many museum staff and volunteers who worked long hours and gave up sleep to make this event possible are to be congratulated.  I want to personally thank them for their efforts.  I would not be surprised if this event will be remembered as one of our best ever.

As I am privileged to be a judge for this build-off, I can’t in good conscience report on the progress of builds as I have done in the past.  However I can say it was great fun to walk around last night and see so many eager creatives getting things underway.  And I love it when they boogie while they build!

What I CAN comment on, however, is the absolutely beautiful arrangement of the sim, particularly the central building of shops, cafes, and a dance floor for intermittent partying, all designed and built by the FLWVM Operations Director Terra Tepper. An incredibly skilled builder, Tepper is also crafting one of the staff houses, alongside Jadyn Firehawk, a two-time Build-off winner who is now on staff as Lecture Coordinator.  Firehawk confessed she almost didn’t accept her job because she loves the Build-off and didn’t want to miss out!  We are pleased she is still participating, even if she can’t compete.

Please put a visit to the Build-off on your weekend ‘to do’ list!  But the museum only asks one thing: when you visit, PLEASE consider your ARC (Avatar Rendering Cost)!  High prim hair and scripted clothing creates a lot of lag for our builders, and in fact you may be kindly requested to change before you explore.  No need to worry about looking beautiful here – the homes you’ll see will MORE than please the eye!
