One of the great things about the Home and Garden Expo is that it gives designers a chance to meet each other and see what everyone is working on. This year, some ongoing projects are emerging too as ideas shared at the Expo are taken forward for the coming year.
One such idea is to have a regular open session at the Prim Perfect Headquarters in Costa Rica. Once a month, one or two designers will give a presentation of something they are working on, or lead a discussion, or be interviewed about their work and their philosophy. And afterwards there will be an opportunity to chat and meet other designers in the Prim Perfect cafe – and perhaps listen to some live music too to round off the session.

Another idea is a fascinating new Home and Garden challenge from some of Second Life’s top designers – and they are challenging themselves!
It’s led by Froukje Hoorenbeek from Dutchie and Isla Geleach from Cheeky Pea, and the plan is that every two weeks, two home and garden designers will take the same real life picture as inspiration and create what they see in Second Life in their own way. Both objects or sets will be displayed in both shops and blogged on both blogs.
This is not about dropping prices. This is about the creators having fun with and inspiring each other to whole new levels of creativity. And if that gets the designers some publicity, traffic and sales in the process, they promise they won’t be complaining!
Although the challenge is still in its early days, Froukje and Isla have already created an impressive line up of designers:
June 10:
Isla Geleach from Cheeky Pea
Froukje Hoorenbeek from Dutchie
June 24:
Pandora Popstar from L.I.S.P. Bazaar
Gala Charron from Art Dummy
July 8:
Mainit Hellman from Baustein
GM Nikolaidis of HomeKraft
July 22:
Elle Kirschner of Second Spaces
Sesi Ackland from Little Boxes
August 5:
Markus Inkpen of The Looking Glass
Kayle Matzerath of Garden of Dreams
Later designers will include: Colleen Desmoulins of The Loft, Winter Thorn of {what next}, Pitsch Parx of UrbanizeD and Maxwell Graf from Rustica. That’s a very formidable list – which makes this a challenge well worth watching! You can find further details on the Designers’ Challenge blog … and we’ll be keeping you up to date here on the Prim Perfect blog too!

The designer challenge looks very cool! Great idea, I can’t wait to see what this (very impressive!) list comes up with.
Can’t wait for the first talks at Prim Perfect – such a great atmosphere for it!
