The second feature in our series of four romantic locations is Alurel, which is primarily a residential realm built on a fantasy theme.

The owners and residents of Alurel are very welcoming and seem genuinely pleased to have you explore their beautiful realm, whether alone, with friends, or as a couple.  This is a land that is truly built for romance, particularly for those who enjoy an elven, fae, or dragon fantasy theme.

Peacefulness abounds in this meticulously landscaped area.  Perhaps one of the Prim Perfect readers said it best, “Alurel is the most romantic place in Second Life. The music is fabulous, the colors are stunning. I can’t think of any other place I would rather spend my time. With each path, there is a place to relax, love, and be one with your soul.”  Perhaps I would add, “or your soul-mate.”

Visitors are welcomed in a charming faerie circle and are invited to begin exploration on foot from that point or to utilize the portal to be taken to any of several featured areas of the sim.

There is one place in Alurel that definitely attracts a number of visitors, if our Prim Perfect readership is a true sample of Jane and John Q. Resident of Second Life.  That area is the Labyrinth.

“Find your way through the Labyrinth of Time, but do not walk alone. Hand in hand with your lover find, the lovers’ way is shown.”

Winding through the well-groomed maze, one may find many locations suitable for slowing down with the object of your affection.  Places made specifically for quiet conversations, dancing, and romantic enjoyment of each other.  The feeling is placid and lovely – nothing of the erotic – save for the growing sense of ‘being’ together.

Aianna Oh, the designer/creator of Alurel, has succeeded in giving her guests the experience of golden sunlight in a late spring or early summer. During my visit, I could almost feel the sun warming my skin as I explored.  This was particularly true when crossing the Bridge to Endelmor Isle and the Alurian Sea. As with many other quiet areas in the sim, Endelmor has a number of couples dance intan machines available for your enjoyment. Endelmor features a lighthouse and sailing ship and provides ample ground for a picnic by the seashore.

Faeries, come take me out of this dull world,
For I would ride with you upon the wind,
Run on the top of the dishevelled tide,
And dance upon the mountains like a flame.
~William Butler Yeats, The Land of Heart’s Desire

If you and your lover are feeling more adventurous, climb the rocks of the waterfall on the Isle as the eagles fly overhead.  You will be richly rewarded with a crisp, cool cave behind the falls where you may dance in a more private setting.  Other areas for the adventurous or playful at heart include the Faerie Garden and the Game Room.  In the garden where the faeries play, the two of you might decide to jump onto a large dandelion seed in order to take a floating tour of the space. The game room, which sits high above the rest of the region, is a place where you might decide to take another couple or two along with you.  There are several tables set with games to play – including Truth or Dare, which is always fun.  Once all the games have been played, then you may choose to remain high in the sky.  Feel free to do so as the music and dances have been provided for your enjoyment in this space as well.

Perhaps the most stunning architectural element to Alurel is the Ballroom. The cool stone and fantasy curves which surround you as you dance with your beloved are surely likely to send you floating directly into the deep warmth of your loved-one’s arms.

One could easily dance for hours and hours in this location simply enjoying the company of your chosen partner.

Hand in hand, with fairy grace,
Will we sing, and bless this place.
~William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night’s Dream

  1. Alurel Family is very honored at being featured in your Quartet of Most Romantic Places and on behalf of the Family, we would like to express our gratitude. It’s a lovely article and I thank you for it!

    Love and Light,
    Aianna Oh
