
It was a hundred years ago today that the RMS Titanic, that iconic ship, left Southampton on her maiden voyage – a voyage that took her to Cherbourg in France, Queenstown (now Cobh) in County Cork, Ireland … and should have taken her onward to New York – but instead led her to that fatal encounter with an iceberg.
Today we have the first of three images of the Titanic that we’ll be showing this week – and it’s taken from the recent Designing Worlds show about different reconstructions of the Titanic in virtual worlds. Today’s image (taken by Wildstar Beaumont) shows the Titanic under construction at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, and it’s part of the Virtual Belfast sims on the OSGrid. It’s also to be found on Kitely.
The Harland and Wolff shipyard is just the start of Virtual Belfast’s unique reconstruction of the Titanic … although to explore more, you’ll need to take a trip beneath the waves …
