Designing Worlds pays a visit to Virtual Ability

The video of our remarkable visit to Virtual Ability is now available. We were shown around this awesome site by Gentle Heron, the President of Virtual Ability Incorporated, and Eme Capalini, the Vice President in chargeof Development – and it really was a fascinating visit, as you will discover.

Vodpod videos no longer available.

This was a eye-opening show, and we were inspired by the concept of universal design that is being applied here. One thing we don’t see is signs aimed at people with disabilities – universal design renders this unnecessary because the signage will be accessible to everyone! Examples such as the design of the auditorium, with the provision not just for wheelchair access but for wheelchair integration, and the use of human assistants to add text to chat, and to describe powerpoint slides demonstrate an important level of thought and foresight.

And then the Orientation Area offers a model of how the Introduction to Second Life (and other worlds) can be made simple and fun. Linden Lab could take notes here!

All in all, this is a show that you won’t want to miss!
