Wild (and Wet) Winter at Wolf Mountain

The lift.

This is one for the adventurous readers. Wolf Mountain Ski Resort is a well-known wedding/honeymoon destination, but you certainly don’t have to be getting hitched to enjoy its amenities! There are a ton of fun things to do there: skiing, swimming in hot springs, horseback riding, hiking, ice skating, shopping, cuddling with cocoa by the fire in the lodge. But that’s not what I want to tell you about.

I want to tell you about how I almost killed myself and our daredevil photographer PJ Trenton.

Calm, cool, and blissfully unaware of the looming danger.

It was his fault, you see. He knows I’m not a very good flier, let alone a driver of virtual vehicles. Why he wanted ME to steer the toboggan I’ll never know (well, yes I do – he needed his hands for his camera, as always). We started off fine, smoothly moving through the curves of the run.

A deceptively good start.

“You are doing awesome!” he said. So what the heck? I picked up speed:

Gaining speed.

“Wheeee!” Things still seems to be going ok… then we got a little air:

Losing ground.

“Umm, ok, where are the brakes?” I shouted, a little nervous. “That would be your foot,” PJ said rather more calmly than I expected, considering the death grip he had on me. Right…

Manual brake.

This DID seem to slow us down. Unfortunately we’d also gone slightly off course. Oh well, time to play Thelma and Louise:

Slightly off course.

The fall ended sooner than expected though, thankfully with a splash rather than a crunch:

A soft, if wet, landing.

Another wonderful thing about the toboggans at Wolf Mountain – they float! A good thing if you are worried about virtual hypothermia.

Bobbing along.

Certainly this would be a good time for that cocoa in the lodge. Nah… let’s go again! And yes – I’M DRIVING!

Have you tried it yet? NO?! It’s Sunday afternoon, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
