Skye’s NOT the Limit for the Talented Sean Ryan!

We’ve just learned some wonderful news about one of Prim Perfect’s favourite SL’ers. Sean Ryan – known to most of us as the incredibly talented Skye Galaxy – is a featured vocalist on two tracks on the upcoming album by ATB (the stage name for popular German trance DJ André Tanneberger).

The album, Distant Earth will be released on the 29th and is now available for pre-order via iTunes. Sean is featured on track 3 “All I Need Is You”, and track 8 “Killing Me Inside”. You can hear quality clips of these at this YouTube preview (at 1:20 and 5:00 respectively, though fans of dance music will enjoy the whole preview):

You can also hear a live version of the whole song here from an ATB club set in Romania (poor sound quality):

I particularly enjoyed this news as I’ve been on a bit of a Skye kick this week after seeing his amazing two-hour show at Eliza Wierwight’s Aria installation on Amase Levasseur’s Originalia sim (and a more fitting venue for his ethereal music I cannot imagine). As always, he played a mix of original songs and covers that ranged from Depeche Mode (it is no blasphemous rumour that his rendition of Stripped rivals the original), to Garbage, to – unbelievably – Rebecca Black’s infamous Friday (I cannot bring myself to link to the video, sorry), which sounded so amazing at first I didn’t recognise it until he sang the lyrics “kickin’ in the front seat.” Afterwords he commented to the delighted and amused audience “That was torture.”

If you aren’t familiar with Skye/Sean, he always sounded to me like a young Peter Gabriel. He plays an exhaustive schedule of dates in world, and has many videos and machinima available on YouTube. Here is a personal favourite:

This exciting news of Sean’s success surely offsets any disappointment caused to his fans in group announcements circulated earlier this week, when he warned that his schedule was turning hectic:

Second Life, though I love playing, will have to come second right now. So there will be cancellations for later this week and parts of the next when I am off to Europe.

Much love,

S

Then this evening, two messages clarified this further. The first was simply the unfortunate cancelling of the evening’s shows due to technical difficulties. However the second announcement seemed more ominous to those not in the know:

With my trip coming up, and the work set ahead, many events have been canceled on these days; (April) 16, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, (May) 1, 2 and 3.

Unmanageable events have been removed. Those remaining are all that is left for April. If you do not see your event listed, please contact me for details, otherwise I will not be able to make it and I do apologize.

My days on SL are winding down, April is currently limited, but will pick come May.

S

Hearing him say his days in SL are limited certainly filled me with sadness, particularly after the recent news of the closing of AM Radio’s sims, the departure of Feathers Boa, and now the closing of the IBM Art Sims on May 1st. But if SL is a platform for artists to grow and expand, then we must surely be excited to see the success of our favourites, as they move forward to face new challenges.

But I know I speak for all the Prim Perfect team when I say that we hope it won’t be the last of Sean in SL, but we wish him every success reaching for the Skye in the physical world. He certainly deserves it!

  1. I’m so glad you wrote about Sean’s performance Rowan. It’s so rare for me to deviate from work for much of anything these days and I find myself making excuses for heading into PS or other so I can attend, park my AV , chill and listen. I really feel at home in his music and I’ve witnessed first hand how this resonates to many others Inworld . I know everyone who attended the performance at Aria were TOTALLY smitten. Perhaps we’ll be lucky and induce Sean to a repeat performance before the closing . Great article.

  2. I must admit, I am a huge Sean fan and have been for a long time now. I too am sad to see his time in SL winding down, but I don’t think he’ll abandon us all together. He’s said many times how much he appreciates the support – in my case, rampant fangirl mania..

I think he’ll still come back and treat us to a tune or two.. i’m just so pleased that he’s getting the opportunity to be heard because his voice cannot be hidden to the world.

And yes, Stripped.. well.. outstrips the original version. Each and every time he plays it, it sounds different but never ever bad. It’s a song that winds its way into my soul and carries me up 🙂

    Viva La Sean!!
