The Spoonful of Sugar Festival is now underway – and it’s a terrific event to visit!
It started on September 15th, and runs until September 30th. There are six regions in total – five feature a wide range of popular and lesser known stores, while the sixth (the main region) supplies information about the event and the organisation it supports – Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), sometimes called Doctors Without Borders.
This is the fourth Spoonful of Sugar festival, founded and co-ordinated by Ever Courtois and Agnes Wickentower. It has become an annual event, but – as a member of the Spoonful of Sugar Festival vendors group – I can tell you that they work all year round to make sure that each festival is unique and spectacular!
One fun element available for L$199 is the Cookbook, containing recipes supplied by Second Life residents. I picked up a copy – and I’ll definitely be trying some of these out. And now this Brit finally knows how to make Jumbos and Churros (although some of the recipes do have mystifying American ingredients – half-and-half, anyone?).
The theme last year was a New England Fall, with lots of apples. This year the location has moved to Tuscany, with villas (and even a small castle) on the main region and Region 3, where larger store builds are located, and there are thriving Tuscan town settings on the main shopping regions – 1 to 4.
On the main region, in the castle, there’s information about Médecins Sans Frontières and the work they do, which is definitely worth checking out. There are also raffles here (with some stunning prizes) a silent auction with some fantastic one of a kind items and gachas – there will also be a live breedables auction (and species specific auctions) over the course of the event.

I particularly liked the way some of the stores have shaped their exhibits to the theme on Region 3: two that stood out for me were Spargel and Shine’s Casupola Giana and courtyard, and Varriale Designs’ lovely Giardino del Sole (Garden of the Sun).
And don’t miss Barnesworth Anubis’ villa which is a major prize in the raffle!
Many of the items on sale donate all or part of their price to Médecins Sans Frontières; these are clearly marked (as is the percentage of the donation).
So do visit this excellent event – for an outstanding cause!
