In this episode of Designing Worlds, we paid the first of two visits to the Second Life 16th Community Birthday Celebration, or SL16B for short.

While Saffia is away in the auditorium presenting interviews with various leading Lindens, our Director Aisling Sinclair joins Elrik Merlin for some excursions around the many regions and builds. This year, the theme (it being the 16th Birthday of Second Life) is “Sweet Sixteen”, inferring, perhaps paradoxically, a 1950s feel.

We start at the beautiful retro televsion studio that was created for Designing Worlds by undercoverlady. Then we’ll enjoy some Non-Profit Commons ice creams; take one of Yavanna Llanfair’s always enjoyable Pod Car Tours of the site; visit LitFest, a little bit of Fantasy Faire at SL16B which looks at some of the great fantasy novels that were first published in the 1950s; and take a look at a remarkable installation created by Pokofy Neva that highlights a darker period in the 1950s – one that is seemingly almost forgotten today – the Korean War.

It all makes for a fascinating show!
