In this episode we visited Nonprofit Commons, the location for a number of not-for-profit organisations in Second Life, and learnt about how Nonprofit Commons works, and also looked at the projects being undertaken by the individual organisations.

We talked to Buffy Beale who, together with Rhiannon Chatnoir, is one of the people behind Nonprofit Commons, and about her own organisation – Bridges for Women Society, based in British Columbia, which has a location on the Nonprofit Commons estate.

Then we talked to the Co-Chair of Nonprofit Commons, Zinnia Zauber of Peninsula College, about the courses she runs for her real life students in her area on Nonprofit Commons and to Namaara MacMoragh, of the Brain Energy Support Team and also the Treasurer of Nonprofit Commons, who shared information about their work – and also her thoughts on nonprofit fundraising in virtual worlds. We also met up with talkswithmarie (also known as Red!) to talk about her G.I.R.L.S projects, and Dancers Yao who talked about the Elder Voices project and the work they are doing with the United Nations on Lyme Disease.

Finally, we left the Nonprofit Commons estate to visit Virtual Ability, and spoke with Gentle Heron. Gentle shared with us the benefits the wider not-for-profit community draw from Nonprofit Commons – they good that they do spreads far and wide not just across the grid, but into real life too.
