Designing Worlds looks back to … the beautiful region of Arcachon

This week on Monday 25th May at 2pm SLT, we are taking a look back to the beautiful and fascinating region of Arcachon, sadly long gone from the Second Life grid.

Unavailable on the web for a number of years, it recently found a home on our new Archive channel (which is full of goodies!).

You can watch it on this blog, and you can also see the show on the Designing Worlds Archive Vimeo channel at: https://vimeo.com/379594685. And you can join the special Watch Party (at 2pm SLT) in our studio on Garden of Dreams.

Arcachon Atlantique, the beautiful Francophone region based on the Languedoc region of France, which had recently come close to closure, despite offering great activities and developing a brilliant immersive language learning programme.

We explored some of the beauties of the region with Claire Pascale, the owner of Arcachon and with Cybère Placebo, who had been working on developing language courses, as well as Karelia Kondor, a teacher of French in the UK, who had used the region of Arcachon in her teaching.

We explored the region, discussing the plans to use it as an immersive language resource, and also experiencing some of the activities it offered, from wine tasting, to a hot air balloon trip, to harvesting (and enjoying!) fresh oysters.

And we looked at the problems owners face in sustaining such a region.

Sadly, although publicity sustained Arcachon for several more months, some time after our visit it was forced to close.

It is a fascinating show – so do come and join us at 2pm at our studio on Garden of Dreams.
