Rugs are a great way of adding colour and life to your SL house, and usually have a very low prim count. Like … erm … one prim. Most rugs are scaleable too, so that you can easily stretch or shrink them to fit the size of your room/apartment/office, or just to position nicely in front of your fire. Not all designs will work everywhere, of course; I’m lucky to have a rug by Szabo Horn (of Designed by Szabo) in a glorious Art Deco style that looks beautiful in a variety of settings.
I’ve seen some rugs that come with a built in colour-and-style-changer that allows you to “match” the rug with the room but, to be honest, so far I’ve been a little disappointed with those. It’s difficult to choose a rug that matches perfectly with your room in terms of both colour and style, and once you have that perfect match, do you need the colour-and-style-changer?
No, if you’re looking for a good rug, you just need to go to a good store and find the one that suits you. And to my mind, the store I usually head for is Isabella Lazarno’s Classic Creations. She has a wealth of rugs (and art posters for your walls too, but that’s another story), ranging from classic designs, oriental designs, retro rugs and modern styles – in a wide range of colours. Clicking on the image at the top of the page, (or here – make sure to look at it in the large size), will show you a sample of just a few of them. I particularly like her ‘playful’ rugs, such as the circular piano, or the collection of shoes.
I also really like the way that the store is laid out, too (and I’ll be doing a piece on store lay-outs soon). Classic Creations is a store that you should approach in the way that its owner intends, not by flying down from the heights of the teleport point. No, take a few minutes to stroll down the steps from the top of the island and see the store artfully laid out below you, so that you get the full effect of all those brilliantly coloured rugs coming into sharper and sharper focus as you descend.
Believe me, once you reach the bottom, you’ll find yourself lost in all the richness and the sheer volume of choice.
And that’s before you even start to look at the other items the store has to offer!
