The Home, Garden and Patio Expo opens today – and the display is absolutely stunning!
Last year the Home Expo was held on two sims and had about 35 exhibitors. This year they have arranged for 55 exhibitors, and have rented four sims (and promise that next year it should be up to eight!).
“But let’s just enjoy this one first,” says Nikki Matheson, one of the event organisers. “We have some great Exhibitors who look forward to seeing lots of SLers at the Expo; musicians and DJ’s who volunteer their talent and time for an awesome cause; SL instructors who are ready to share their expertise, a Raffle house FULL of lots of fantastic prizes donated by our Exhibitors; an Auction House full of great items to bid on; and The All-Star RFL team who are amazing, dedicated and tireless.”
With a combination like that, there’s no doubt that this year’s Home, Garden and Patio Expo will be spectacular!
If one sim is full, try another.. there are FOUR entrances to Home, Garden and Patio Expo Entertainment:
Rhodium -http://slurl.com/secondlife/Rhodium/231/63/60 (psst! That’s where Prim Perfect is!)
Iridium -http://slurl.com/secondlife/Iridium/237/128/60
Platinum – http://slurl.com/secondlife/Platinum/35/177/60
Palladium – http://slurl.com/secondlife/Palladium/41/30/60

The Expo features builders from all areas of home and land decor in Second Life. From prefabs and furniture to flowers and swimming pools, this event brings a wide variety of merchandise available in Second Life to those wanting to decorate their homes and land. Visitors will be able to purchase items right on the spot, and also each Exhibitor will be selling items in All-Stars RFL vendors, which directly routes the lindens to Relay for Life in SL. All the participants have been asked to place two of the RFL team vendors created specifically for this expo, selling one unique item in each.
Last year, Relay for Life in Second Life had 80 teams with up to 15 members each. They raised about 22 million lindens, which broke down to be about 80,000 USD. 2008 was the third year for RFL in SL and up to the beginning of the 2009 season, they have sent nearly a half million dollars to The American Cancer Society for cancer research. So far, this year, RFL in SL are up to 120 teams and have 2000 relayers on those teams. They have over 12,000 kiosks scattered across SL, and are at about 22,000,000L.
“My team, The All-Stars, raised just under 3 million lindens last year,” says Nikki, “and we hope to double that this year. We also hold a large ‘Back to the 50s’ Weekend Event and The Fashion Expo, along with the Home, Garden and Patio Expo and lots of smaller scale events. Approximately 20% of all money raised in SL for the ACS is earmarked for international cancer research.”

And visitors will not only have the opportunity to shop – they can also learn as well, with the Expo Classroom. The instructors are builders within SL who have volunteered to teach at the Expo. There will also be SL builder tool demonstrations. Last year the most popular builder tool demos were the Puppeteer, Sculpt Studio and the HyperCube.
Returning to the Expo is the very popular All-Stars Raffle Pavillion! Exhibitors have generously donated some awesome raffle prizes and entries will cost 250L each or 3 for 500L. Drawings will take place throughout the day with three BIG Grand Finale Drawings on May 10th. You don’t need to be present to win and every entry gets you a free gift bag!
New to the Main Stage area this year is the Expo Auction House where some fabulous items will be up for silent auction. 100% of all proceeds from the musical performances, Raffle Pavillion and the Auction House will go directly to Relay for Life.
In addition, there will be music played every day of the Expo, from 10 am to 7 pm, with a 2 hour gap at noon to 2 PM. They will have all kinds of music, from live music to dj’s, country to rock and everything in between!
