Fantasy Faire 2013 – Day 3 – Fairelands Junction

It’s no easy task to be the Faireland Sheriffs Commandant.  From jailing Fairelanders (and how about Kiana, Evie and Yuna!) to guarding against the menace of the Unweaver’s minions (see Grid Gremlins).  So it’s all the more impressive that Commandant Xavian Starsider also finds time to bring on da noise & da funk! He and Ganjo lit up the Fairelands today as did Drones & Drums. It’s a tough job  But somebody’s gotta do it. Protect and Serve (see waffles)… Two days. L$3.4 million. Just the facts, ma’am. – Zander Greene

Normally, I start our trips around the Faire at the Fairelands Junction, the jumping off point to the various Fantasy worlds that form the Faire as we see it, but this year we come to it as part of our tour.

Leaving behind the syrupy wonders of Mayah Parx’s imagination we enter a misty forest.  Forests can carry many feelings with them, dark and foreboding to light and refreshing and Fairelands Junction seems to strike a balance somewhere in between. Creator Saiyge Lotus has managed to capture the mystical forest feel and imbue a sense of mystery and an enigmatic charm without any sinister shadows that might give rise to lurking wolves or mythical monsters.

“A Gruffalo what’s a Gruffalo?” I hear a hundred parent’s cry out in unison.

The junction is the official starting point of the Faire. The entry sim to the wonders beyond. As such the designer must consider the fact that the region will be constantly churning through new arrivals.

One of the main tasks of the region, as its name suggests, is to act as the jumping off point for visitors. It must also equip the visitors for their adventures. To this end, picking up from the wonderful low lag skin and hair provided last year, this year that are two skin and hair packages provided completely free of charge by The Plastik. One package provides a mermaid skin for those of an aquatic inclination, whilst the other provides a Khulthi skin for those who prefer the land.

Once equipped and ready to depart the visitors can pick their destination land from any of the beautifully crafted tree hollow portals that surround the landing point. Each tree, labelled with the ma,e of the region carries in it a mini rendering of the destination to intrigue and whet the appetite.

We however have a path of our own and will simply cross the border to reach our next Faireland region.

On the way we will pass by a wall, adorned with offerings. Each offering is an item that is being sold in the Fantasy Faire Silent Auction, pick your items, make your pledge and wait until the end of the Faire to see if you have been lucky enough to win.

For now we will head onward,  to our west lies ACS Island, home to the American Cancer Society; we, however, have our sights set on the next Faire region, Alia Baroque’s Magnificat. Which we shall see tomorrow.
